The strips that hold the cell
Batteries are held in place by stretch-release strips with pull tabs. Done properly, the tabs stretch and release cleanly and the old cell lifts straight out. The strips are consumed in the process, so a battery replacement always needs new ones.
These are worth having spare for another reason: the tabs snap fairly often, particularly on a phone that has been opened before or has run warm for years. A snapped tab turns a ten minute job into a careful prying exercise.

Clean the battery well of all old adhesive before laying new strips
Position the tabs so they are reachable next time the phone is opened
Press the cell down firmly and evenly rather than in one spot

What if the pull tab snaps?
Work isopropyl alcohol under the cell to weaken the adhesive and lift it with a plastic tool. Never bend or puncture a battery to free it.
Can I use ordinary double-sided tape?
You can, but the next person to open the phone will have no pull tabs and a much harder job.
Do replacement batteries include strips?
Some do and some do not. Where they are not included the listing says so.
