About the iPhone 17 battery adhesive

This pre-cut battery adhesive holds the battery firmly in the iPhone 17, so it cannot shift inside the phone. Apple’s original adhesive on this model is released with a small electric current rather than pulled out with tabs, and once released it cannot be reused, so a battery that comes out needs new adhesive.

This adhesive releases the same way. If the battery ever has to come out again, it lets go with a 9-volt battery, with no prying.

You get one pre-cut adhesive for the iPhone 17. It is single use.

Which iPhone 17 models it fits

iPhone 17 model numbers A3258, A3519, A3520 and A3521. Find yours in Settings, then General, then About: tap the number shown until it starts with an A.

Match the adhesive to your exact model. We also stock battery adhesive for the iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

How the old battery comes out

There are no pull tabs on the iPhone 17. Apple’s original adhesive lets go when a small electric current is passed through it. Apple’s repair manual uses a 9-volt battery connected to the silver adhesive tab for about 90 seconds, and the battery then lifts out. A bench power supply can do the same job.

Never pry against the battery, bend it or puncture it. A damaged lithium battery can catch fire.

How to fit the iPhone 17 battery adhesive

  1. Clear the old adhesive. Remove all residue from the battery recess with isopropyl alcohol or ethanol wipes.
  2. Let it dry. The surface must be completely dry before the new adhesive goes on.
  3. Apply the adhesive. Peel the liner and line the adhesive up before it touches, then press it on evenly.
  4. Seat the battery. Remove the remaining liner, set the battery into its recess and press it down evenly.
  5. Reconnect and test. Reconnect the battery and check that the phone powers on and charges before you close it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I remove the iPhone 17 battery?

Not with pull tabs. The original adhesive releases with a small electric current: Apple’s repair manual uses a 9-volt battery for about 90 seconds, then the battery lifts out.

Do I need new adhesive after removing the battery?

Yes. The released adhesive cannot be reused, so clean every trace of it off and fit new adhesive before the battery goes back in.

Will this adhesive release with a 9-volt battery next time?

Yes. It uses the same process as Apple’s original adhesive, so if the battery has to come out again, it releases with a 9-volt battery, with no prying.

How do I find my iPhone model number?

Open Settings, then General, then About, and tap the number shown until it starts with an A. Match it to the model numbers listed on this page.

Can you fit the battery for me?

Yes. We replace iPhone batteries: see iPhone repair prices for the models we fit and what it costs.
