About the MacBook Air 13-inch A1466 replacement battery

A MacBook that shuts down with charge still showing, runs hot doing very little, or has a visibly swollen case has a worn cell rather than a fault elsewhere. Capacity falls with every charge cycle, and in daily use the drop becomes noticeable after a few years.

This is a zero-cycle, factory-fresh 54.4 Wh cell, dimensionally matched to the original Apple part.

Battery adhesive and the screwdrivers needed for the job are included, so there is nothing else to source before starting.

How to fit the MacBook Air 13-inch A1466 battery

  1. Power the machine off completely before starting, since a punctured lithium battery can catch fire.
  2. Remove the bottom case screws and lift the case away to expose the battery.
  3. Disconnect the battery connector from the logic board before touching the cell.
  4. Remove the screws holding the battery to the case and lift it out, without prying against the cell.
  5. Fit the new battery, reconnect it, and check the machine powers on and charges before closing the case.
