On Pre-orderA cell that shuts the machine down with charge still showing, or runs hot doing very little, is worn rather than broken. Capacity drops with every charge cycle, and on a MacBook Air 13-inch in daily use that becomes hard to ignore somewhere past the two year mark.
Board number decides the cell. M1 A2337 takes an A2389, M2 A2681 takes an A2669, and the 2018 to 2020 Intel A1932 and A2179 take different cells again.
Several batteries for this range are on the shelf in New Zealand rather than ordered in per sale, so a repair booked in the morning is not waiting on offshore freight. Everything else for this range is under MacBook Air 13-inch Spare Parts, and fitting can be booked through the repairs service.
Orders placed before the 2pm cut-off dispatch the same working day and reach most New Zealand addresses overnight.
Stop using it and stop charging it. A swollen cell presses on the trackpad and screen and should come out promptly.
Aftermarket cells often cannot pass health data to macOS, so a service message can appear. The cell itself charges and runs normally.
