Pairing Ready, Standard or Cell Only: which to choose

All three replace a worn iPhone 13 mini battery. The difference is what happens to the battery IC, the small board that tells iOS which battery is fitted, and that decides what the phone shows afterwards.

Best forNo Unknown message and no solderingA straightforward, lower-cost swapKeeping the phone reading the battery it already had

Choose Pairing Ready when the phone should show a “Genuine” battery rather than “Unknown”, without soldering. The Standard battery is the lower-cost straight swap, and Cell Only keeps the phone’s original IC for technicians who solder.

About the iPhone 13 mini pairing ready battery

This is an aftermarket replacement battery for the iPhone 13 mini: a new lithium-ion polymer cell with a pre-paired chip, and the adhesive already applied. It fits as a straight battery swap, with no soldering, and finishes with a step in iOS.

The iPhone 13 mini was released in 2021. At 2406 mAh it is the smallest battery in the iPhone 13 line-up. The iPhone 13 mini is opened from the screen side, so the display comes off before the battery can be reached.

The original iPhone 13 mini battery carries model number A2660 on its label. Checking it against the old battery before you start confirms you have the right replacement.

Important information

  • This is an aftermarket replacement battery with a pre-paired chip, not an Apple original part.
  • The “Genuine” label in Parts and Service History comes from the pre-paired chip. The cell itself is aftermarket.
  • GA Tech NZ is not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by Apple Inc.
  • Apple and iPhone are trademarks of Apple Inc., used here only to identify the device this part fits.

What iOS shows after the swap

Once Restart & Finish Repair has run, Parts and Service History lists the battery as “Genuine”, marked “Used”, instead of “Unknown”, and Battery Health shows a percentage: 100% on a new battery. Apple uses “Used” for a part that was already used or installed in another iPhone, and that is how iOS reads the pre-paired chip, even though the battery is new.

Restart & Finish Repair is part of Apple’s Repair Assistant, which Apple offers on the iPhone 12 and later. It needs Wi-Fi, more than 20% charge and the latest version of iOS. If another part in the phone already shows as “Unknown”, such as an aftermarket screen, Restart & Finish Repair may not complete, so check Parts and Service History before you start.

We have confirmed this battery on iOS 26. Apple can change how iOS treats replacement parts in any update, so we cannot promise how future versions will behave. Apple explains the labels in its guides to Parts and Service History and Repair Assistant.

Compatible iPhone 13 mini model numbers

This battery fits iPhone 13 mini models A2481, A2626, A2628, A2629 and A2630. They are the same phone sold in different regions, so one battery covers all of them.

It does not fit other iPhone models: the iPhone 13 uses a 3227 mAh battery and the iPhone 12 mini uses a 2227 mAh battery. Check the model number in Settings > General > About, or use Apple’s guide to identifying your iPhone.

How to fit the iPhone 13 mini pairing ready battery

For technicians and experienced repairers. Work on an ESD-safe bench, and never lever against a lithium battery: a punctured cell can catch fire.

  1. Prepare the bench. Precision screwdrivers, a heat mat or heat gun, a suction handle, plastic picks and fine tweezers.
  2. Open the phone from the screen. Heat and lift the display, then unplug the battery connector before touching anything else.
  3. Remove the old battery. Pull the adhesive tabs out slowly at a low angle, then lift the battery out without bending or puncturing it.
  4. Fit the new battery. Peel the backing off its adhesive, press it into place, and reconnect it.
  5. Test and close. Check the phone boots and charges, then reseal it with fresh display adhesive.
  6. Finish the repair in iOS. With the phone on Wi-Fi, above 20% charge and on the latest iOS, open Settings > General > About > Parts & Service History and tap Restart & Finish Repair.

If you would rather hand the job over, GA Tech NZ offers in-house iPhone 13 mini battery replacement, and our repair tools range covers the bench kit.

Who this battery suits

Repair shops and technicians. For customers who want Settings to show a “Genuine” battery rather than an Unknown part, without micro-soldering.

Experienced DIY repairers. If you have opened an iPhone before and own the tools, it fits as a straight swap, then finishes in Settings.

Phones with another Unknown part. If Parts and Service History already shows another part as “Unknown”, Restart & Finish Repair may not complete. Choose the Standard battery instead.

First-time repairers. If you have not opened an iPhone before, our in-house fitting service is the safer route.

Frequently asked questions

How is Pairing Ready different from Standard and Cell Only?

All three replace the battery. Pairing Ready has a pre-paired chip, so iOS lists it as “Genuine” (marked “Used”). Standard shows as “Unknown”. Cell Only keeps the phone’s original IC but needs soldering.

What will iOS show after fitting?

Once Restart & Finish Repair has run, Parts and Service History lists the battery as “Genuine”, marked “Used”, with no Unknown part message.

Why is it marked Used?

Apple uses “Used” for a part that was already used or installed in another iPhone. iOS reads the pre-paired chip that way, even though the battery is new.

Is this an Apple original battery?

No. It is an aftermarket battery. The “Genuine” label comes from the pre-paired chip, not from Apple making the cell.

Do I need to run Repair Assistant?

Yes. After fitting, open Settings, then General, About, Parts & Service History, and tap Restart & Finish Repair. The phone needs Wi-Fi, more than 20% charge and the latest iOS.

What if Restart & Finish Repair will not complete?

Restart the phone and try again. If another part in the phone already shows as “Unknown”, such as an aftermarket screen, it may not complete at all. For a phone like that, the Standard battery is the simpler choice.

What will Battery Health show?

A percentage: 100% on a new battery.

Does it work on the latest iOS?

We have confirmed it on iOS 26. Apple can change how iOS treats replacement parts in any update, so we cannot promise how future versions will behave.

Is the iPhone 13 mini battery the same as the iPhone 13 battery?

No. The iPhone 13 mini takes a 2406 mAh battery and the iPhone 13 a 3227 mAh battery, each shaped for its own phone, so the two are not interchangeable.

Which iPhone 13 mini models does it fit?

Model numbers A2481, A2626, A2628, A2629 or A2630. Check yours in Settings, then General, then About.

What warranty comes with it?

6 months against manufacturing defects. Physical damage, punctures and damage caused while fitting are not covered.
