Not charging is not always the port
Before replacing anything, the port is worth cleaning. Pocket lint compacts into the connector over months and stops the cable seating fully, and that accounts for a good share of the phones that arrive described as needing a new port.
Where the port genuinely has failed, the symptoms are a cable that only works at one angle, charging that stops when the phone is moved, or no response at all. The port is part of a flex assembly that usually also carries the microphone and antenna connections, so the whole assembly is replaced together.

How do I know it is the port and not the cable?
Try a known good cable and charger first, then clean the port carefully with a dry non-metal pick. If it still fails, the port is the likely fault.
Does replacing the port affect the microphone?
It can, because the bottom microphone sits on the same flex. Replacing the assembly replaces both.
Is this a beginner repair?
It is harder than a battery. The assembly runs under other components and needs patient routing to seat correctly.
