Why the cable decides the speed

The cable is the part most often blamed last and responsible first. A charge-only cable carries power but no data, and a cable not rated for power delivery caps the current no matter what the adaptor can supply. Adaptors are listed under charging accessories.

Braided cables cost a little more and last considerably longer, because the failure point on a cheap cable is the strain relief where the cord meets the plug rather than the conductor itself. For a cable that lives in a bag, the braiding is usually worth it.
