Charging and USB-C boards for the MacBook Pro 16-inch

Charging that only works at a certain cable angle, or a port that feels loose, is almost always the port board rather than the charger. The board is a separate part from the logic board, which keeps the repair far cheaper than it sounds.

The A2485 shares its USB-C board with the 14-inch A2442. The 2019 A2141 instead uses the board shared with the 13-inch and 15-inch Pro of that era.

Try a known-good charger and cable first. If the fault follows the port rather than the cable, the board is the part to replace.

Is the port board separate from the logic board?

Yes. On these models it is its own board joined by a short cable, so it can be replaced on its own.
