Identifying the machine

Use the model identifier from the underside of the machine or from About This Mac rather than the purchase year, since Apple sold overlapping generations. Components changed significantly across the chassis revisions. Other Mac lines are under MacBook spare parts, and fitting can be booked through the repairs service.

Keyboards are the second most common job after batteries. Liquid and crumbs reach the switches and leave a key that repeats or does nothing, and on several generations the keyboard is serviced as part of the top case rather than on its own.
