Charging and USB-C boards for the MacBook Pro 14-inch

Charging that only works at a certain cable angle, or a port that feels loose, is almost always the port board rather than the charger. The board is a separate part from the logic board, which keeps the repair far cheaper than it sounds.

MagSafe 3 returned with this generation and handles charging, while USB-C carries data. The A2442 shares its USB-C board with the 16-inch A2485.

How do I know it is the port and not the charger?

Try a known-good charger and cable first. If the fault follows the port rather than the cable, the board is the part to replace.

Is the port board separate from the logic board?

Yes. On these models it is its own board joined by a short cable, so it can be replaced on its own.
