GA Tech repair services
Need phone repair in Queenstown? GA Tech repairs iPhone, Samsung, OPPO and other mobile devices, plus MacBook, tablet, laptop and game console repairs. Choose Queenstown drop-off or courier send-in across New Zealand, then select your repair, request a fault assessment, or add an insurance report where needed.

Charging that only works at a certain cable angle, or a port that feels loose, is almost always the port board rather than the charger. The board is separate from the logic board, which keeps this repair far cheaper than it first sounds.
Two boards cover the range. The A1706 pairs with the 15-inch A1707 of the same year. From 2018 onward a single board is shared across the 13-inch, the 15-inch and the 2019 to 2020 16-inch, so one part covers a wide spread of machines.
Boards are held in New Zealand rather than ordered in per sale. Everything else for this range is under MacBook Pro 13-inch Spare Parts, and fitting can be booked through the repairs service.
Orders placed before the 2pm cut-off dispatch the same working day and reach most New Zealand addresses overnight.
Try a known-good charger and cable first. If charging still cuts out or only works at an angle, the fault is in the port board.
The A1706 uses its own board, shared with the 15-inch A1707. Machines from 2018 onward use a single shared board that also fits the 15-inch and the 2019 to 2020 16-inch.
Yes. On these models it is its own small board joined by a short cable, so a worn port does not mean replacing the logic board.
Fitting prices are listed on our repair prices page. Tell us the model number from the underside and we will confirm.
