Charging and USB-C boards for the MacBook 12-inch

Charging that only works at a certain cable angle, or a port that feels loose, is almost always the port board rather than the charger. The board is a separate part from the logic board, which keeps the repair far cheaper than it sounds.

One USB-C port did charging and data on this machine. There is no second port to fall back on, so a worn connector takes the whole machine off the desk.

How do I know it is the port and not the charger?

Try a known-good charger and cable first. If the fault follows the port rather than the cable, the board is the part to replace.

Is the port board separate from the logic board?

Yes. On these models it is its own board joined by a short cable, so it can be replaced on its own.
