The glass over the camera, not the camera
The lens cover is the outer glass protecting the rear camera module. It cracks easily because it sits proud of the body, and once it does, photos come back hazy, washed out or full of flare in bright light while the camera underneath is untouched.
This is one of the cheapest repairs on a phone and one of the most satisfying, because the picture quality returns completely once the damaged glass is off.
