Checking the fit before ordering
The reliable way to confirm a fit is the model identifier on the underside of the machine rather than the year you bought it, since Apple often sells two generations alongside each other. Earlier chassis are covered under MacBook Air accessories and MacBook Pro accessories.

How do I confirm which MacBook I have?
The model identifier is printed on the underside of the machine and also appears under About This Mac. That is more reliable than the purchase year.
Do hard shells block the vents?
Well cut ones do not. Shells stocked here leave the vents and ports clear, which matters most on machines with fans.
Will a case from the previous model fit?
Usually not. Small changes to the port layout and thickness are enough to stop a shell closing.
