What protects what

A hard shell takes the knocks and the corner drops. A sleeve protects the finish inside a bag but does nothing once the machine is out. Most people carrying a laptop daily end up with both. Ports are expanded through adaptors and hubs, and internal parts are under MacBook spare parts.

Keyboard covers divide opinion. They stop crumbs and spills reaching the switches, which is the fault that turns a cheap clean into an expensive top case job, but they change the feel of typing and can mark the screen if left in place when the lid closes.
